Heath Walker joined Hibiscus Coast Softball Club in the 2002/03 season and quickly became a driving force behind the club’s development and growth. In his early years with HBC, Heath balanced playing responsibilities with coaching his children’s teams, demonstrating a strong commitment to both the sport and the club community.
He was also instrumental in helping establish the club’s senior men’s programme, creating new opportunities for players and helping strengthen the club’s presence within the local softball landscape.
In the 2004/05 season, Heath was encouraged to put his name forward for the role of Club President, a challenge he accepted with enthusiasm. At that time, HBC was still a relatively young club and had been operating largely through the efforts of a small group of dedicated volunteers following the resignation of founder Stephen Ellison. Recognising the need for a stronger governance structure, Heath established the club’s first formal committee, laying the foundations for future growth and sustainability.
Under Heath’s leadership, the club experienced significant expansion. When he assumed the presidency, HBC consisted of just six teams. By the time he stepped down in 2008, that number had doubled to twelve teams, including three senior teams and nine junior teams. This growth reflected not only increased participation but also the strengthening reputation of the club within the community.
Heath returned to the presidency for the 2010/11 season, once again providing leadership and stability during an important period in the club’s history before stepping down at the conclusion of that season.
Through his vision, leadership, and dedication, Heath played a pivotal role in shaping Hibiscus Coast Softball Club into the organisation it is today. In recognition of his outstanding contribution and service, Heath was awarded Life Membership in 2013, becoming the club’s second Life Member. His legacy can still be seen in the club’s structure, culture, and continued commitment to providing opportunities for players and families throughout the community.
